Joel graduated with a Masters in Environmental Science & Management from the Bren School at UC Santa Barbara and BA from Lafayette College. He brings over 8 years of experience integrating sustainability into the culture of financial institutions, NGO's, municipalities, construction companies and transportation agencies. He has certified green building projects using LEED, BREEAM, CEEQUAL, Ska and 3-Star in 5 different countries. Prior to joining the City of Santa Monica, Joel was Sustainability Coordinator for Skanska on the $800M BART Extension project. He has managed Engineers Without Borders project teams in Peru and holds leadership positions with the Los Angeles LBC Collaborative and USGBC-LA Chapter.
