Living Future 2015

Human-centered architecture depends on human-centered approaches to research and design. In order to authentically address community, culture and place, a designer must first tend to an inner world of mindfulness and possibility. By applying adapted forms of mindfulness practice and anthropological research methods, designers can better understand, empathize and operate within the communities they serve. Led by a Zen priest, a cultural ecologist and some curious architects, this session will guide participants through a series of inward-focused mindfulness exercises that will inform an outward-focused ethnographic workshop. Participants will develop mindfulness and embodied empathy skills that will transform their design practices.
