The benefits of urban agriculture are widely recognized – including enhanced food security and alleviation of food deserts, the support of more sustainable, less fossil-fuel dependent, community-focused food production, the transformation of the built environment through the introduction of the nutrient cycle, and the introduction of new business opportunities within the food network. Now that a number of projects have attempted to make business sense of urban agriculture, there is an opportunity to analyze the economics of urban farming, and to investigate the realities of the business case, including finding funding and financing.
